Trumbo

The “Hollywood 10” were writers, directors and actors who were deemed to be communists or communist-sympathisers in the mid to late 1940s. They were jailed for contempt of Congress, for refusing to testify in front of the House Committee on un-American Activities, fired by their studios and blacklisted from working in Hollywood.

Dalton Trumbo was one of these writers whose name, reputation and family were dragged through the mud because of his beliefs and political affiliations. But, he wasn’t going to take it lying down and so these guys wrote under aliases and basically gave the finger to the self-righteous political witch hunters like Hedda Hopper and John Wayne (who created the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals.)

Great performances by Louis C.K, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren and Elle Fanning and an Oscar nomination for Bryan Cranston.
