The Huntsman – Winter’s War

This movie straddles “Snow White & The Huntsman” in terms of a timeline, with the first part occurring before Snow White, and most of the movie taking place after the evil queen Ravenna is supposedly vanquished by Eric, The Huntsman, at the end of the first movie.

Original cast members, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth reprise their roles, and Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt join the cast this time around.

This prequel/sequel follows the relationship between the two sisters, evil Ravenna and her younger sibling Freya, the ice queen, traumatised by love lost and the death of her baby in a terrible fire.

To protect herself and her broken heart, she bans love and creates an army of Huntsmen out of the children she has orphaned through war. Two of these are Eric and Sara, fantastically played by Jessica Chastain.

Brilliant CGI and a really enjoyable story make this a worthwhile Friday night flick, though Rob Brydon was disappointing as one of the dwarf bounty-hunters…
