Emily Blunt again shows that she refuses to be typecast, as she plays FBI agent Kate Macer, drawn into a task force to deal with a merciless drug lord and members of his cartel.

Benicio del Toro is brilliant, Josh Brolin is calculated, and Director of Photography, Roger Deakins, is a genius who never fails to impress with his talented and stylised filming. Expect to see a Best Cinematography Oscar nod for this one.

Reel Queen Verdict

At times, quite gruesome and violent, this a well-crafted story, deliberately told, and it gets a much deserved 8/10.
