“Room” is based on the novel by Emma Donoghue.
Joy Newsome was kidnapped at 17 and kept in a garden shed for 7 years, by a man that we know only as “Old Nick.” As a result of repeated assaults, she falls pregnant and gives birth to a little boy, named Jack.
The film begins on Jack’s 5th Birthday, and it is a story about a mother’s love for her son, how she teaches him about the world, and eventually how they manage to escape “Room” which is serious ‘edge of your seat’ stuff!
Joan Allen plays Joy’s mother, as the story becomes about dealing with PTSD, and learning to live in the world again.
An amazing performance by Jacob Tremblay – the little boy who plays Jack – and Brie Larson is phenomenal as ‘Ma.’
If you are an Oscar-buff, watch it this weekend!
It gets a brilliant 9/10.
