Joseph Fiennes is Clavius, a Roman tribune in Pontius Pilate’s inner circle. And he, along with an eager young soldier, is tasked with quelling a disturbance at the site of the crucifixion, and subsequently with securing the tomb of Jesus once he is laid to rest.

The movie is essentially about the hunt for the body of Jesus, by the Romans and the Pharisees who wanted to quash the rumours of his resurrection.

Well-known Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis is well-cast as Yeshua.

It’s a refreshing look at another aspect of the history of Easter.
