Brian Helgeland has brought us an excellent script and outstanding performances by Tom Hardy, as both Ronald & Reginald Kray – the notorious gangster twins of East London in the 1960’s.
Reggie was the smooth-talking “brains” behind their criminal empire, while Ronnie was the mentally disturbed, and unabashedly violent, loose canon.
Reggie falls in love with Frances, placing strain on the twins’ bond and clearly unhinging Ronnie even more. Reggie’s allegiance to Ronald dooms not only his marriage and beautiful wife, but both brothers as well.
The film is obviously very violent, but cinematically brilliant and superbly directed.
