Not usually a huge fan of Woody Allen’s films, this gem starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey was thoroughly enjoyable.

Phoenix plays Abe, a jaded, alcoholic, college professor who meets Jill, a bright-eyed, ‘eager to learn’ student who develops a crush on him. Parker Posey plays another lecturer, determined to seduce Abe and convince him to run away with her.

As Abe and Jill’s friendship develops, they overhear a conversation in a diner about a woman in a terrible custody battle, with a crooked judge who is ruining her life.

Suddenly, Abe finds purpose in his life and sets out to right the wrong done to this poor lady by the corrupt judge.

Very amusing, with a fabulous twist at the end! 7/10
