“Dis ek, Anna” is the heartbreaking story of Anna Bruwer, who is repeatedly and relentlessly molested at the hands of her loathsome step-father, perfectly played by Morne Visser.
Sara Blecher’s direction is flawless, and gut-wrenching performances from Charlene Brouwer and Marius Weyers will leave you devastated as you re-live Anna’s abuse when she is put on trial for shooting him in cold blood.
This film paints a realistic and truly bleak portrait of the child-abuse, baby rape and vigilante violence in South Africa. Every parent should see it.
I weep for my country, and hold my children a little closer after seeing this incredibly powerful piece of cinema.
It gets a tear-stained 8/10.
